Youths vital in next SKNLP Government

YOUTHS WILL HAVE A VITAL PLACE IN the next St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) government, the political party’s 2022 Manifesto says.

The colourful 27-page manifesto details a number of policies, programmes and initiatives that the Dr. Terrance Drew-government plans pursuing when elected.

Dr Drew, a Cuban and US-trained medical specialist, heads the party’s list of candidates contesting tomorrow’s national elections. The SKNLP is widely tipped to triumph at Friday’s elections following consecutive defeats in 2015 and 2020 to the three-party Team Unity coalition of Accountant, Dt Timothy Harris.

Harris, as Prime Minister, and his coalition partners have been under growing public scrutiny following bourgeoning allegations of malfeasance in public office.

PM Harris has been publicly named in a scandal involving British billionaire and property tycoon, Peter Virdee. The Caribbean head of State has vigorously denied involvement in the corruption claims.

Ensuring that there is significant focus on youths

Once in government, the SKNLP plans establishing a ‘National Youth Advisory Council’ to provide the Government with options for guiding decision-making on matters impacting the nation’s youths.

Throughout their electoral campaign, the party and its candidates have been reiterating the important role youths play in a SKNLP government. As a matter of fact, the party has had a long track record of selecting youthful candidates for public office to ensure a cadre of leaders is always available.

Further the party said that it will introduce fiscal incentives for participants in the creative industry (e.g., artistes, DJs, musicians et al) to import equipment, raw material and other instruments to help maintain their craft and financially support their families.

SKNLP will also pursue start-up accelerator programmes to stimulate creative industries activities which would provide young people with the seed investment, connections, mentorship and educational components necessary for success.

Additionally, the party which has been credited for a number of major local opportunities, developmental initiatives, and the improvement and enhancement of life and the economy in St Kitts and Nevis, said they will strengthen regional and international networks geared towards growth, development and business opportunities for local artistes.

Dr. Denzil Douglas, who led the party to four consecutive election victories in his 20-year election reign as Prime Minister,  recently stepped down paving the way for the youthful Dr Terrance Drew to be eventually elected as SKLP leader and Prime Ministerial candidate at tomorrow’s poll.

Dr Douglas is serving as a Constituency Six legislator for 33 unbroken years.
