ST KITTS & NEVIS HONOURS 25 ‘MOST REMARKABLE TEENS’

LEGISLATORS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT JOINTLY HONOURED 25 of the most remarkable Basseterre teens beneficiaries of the 11-year-old Youth Empowerment programme.

The award ceremony was held recently in the Marriott Resort Ballroom, in St Kitts and Nevis.

Among those who received awards were Kahly-el Ward, Maija Lake, Brianna Paul and Malachi Tucker-Gumbs. They all reflected on the great opportunity provided for them give of their services to others.

Scholar-Athlete, Kahly-el Ward, said that his selection as a member of the 2022 class was truly humbling and pledges to continue representing the Federation proudly.

Fourteen-year-old Brianna Paul and 19-year-old Maija Lake, shared similar sentiments and encouraged peers to give back whenever possible.

Meanwhile, Malachi Tucker-Gumbs, 16, who was awarded for her contributions in the Performing Arts, was completely ecstatic to receive the prestigious award.

“I feel so overwhelmed. Words can’t express what this means to me. I have to thank God; I have to thank my church, friends and family. I am grateful for this,” the 16-year-old expressed.

Education Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, who is also the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Empowerment, lauded the decade-old Youth Empowerment programme and its life-changing effects on participants.

“I had no idea that this programme would have blossomed into one of the most outstanding youth award ceremonies in the entire Eastern Caribbean,” minister Hanley said.
