SKNLP unveils ambitious agenda
ST KITTS-NEVIS RESIDENTS can look forward for adult day care facilities, improved health infrastructure and homes for single mothers Ms. Marsha Henderson assured a huge gathering which turned up for Sunday’s public rally ahead of the August 5th national polls.
“Your roads and sidewalks have been neglected for far too long. Sincere the current representative seems and have been missing in action, I will bring real representation to ensure that the Greenland Park is renovated, rejuvenated and revolutionised. Irishtown and Mc Knight. I got you, there you will see bigger and better games to the garden/playfields and that is so, because we are going to improve the grounds at the Irishtown playfields,” Henderson, a trained lawyer told the enthusiastic crowd.
St Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister, Dr Timothy Harris, was forced to call early elections following the collapse of his three-party coalition government when six of his cabinet colleagues demanded his resignation or face a No Confidence Motion (NCM).
Harris fired his six dissenting Cabinet ministers but still faced the NCM which prevailed.
The embattled PM tried extending his tenuous stay in office by a further three months, but a massive public protest organised by the SKNLP obliterated the move.
The SKNLP opposition has been on a sustained push since then to blanket the 53,900 population Leeward Islands nation with crisp advertising and targeted rallies in its political campaigns.
Henderson, widely known by the soubriquet ‘The People’s Defender’ in her fiery presentation reminded her loyal audience that “health centres should be able to provide support to the broader health and mental health. I will work on your behalf Central Bassettere to bring these crucial modern improvements to you and for you.”
She assured Sadwell residents their grievances over the deplorable condition of the roads have been heard and she intends to immediately address it after taking office. “Within the first three months,” she assured.
“For too long your voices have fallen upon deaf ears,” she complained.
Admitting that housing, health care and jobs are some pf the most critical issues voters want addressed, Henderson announced that modern affordable homes form part of the party’s manifesto.
“I am pulling out all the stops when it comes to housing. I have heard all your cries of being ignored especially when it comes to housing and enough is enough. When I am elected that nonsense is going to be over. The entire St Kitts Nevis Labour Party ‘A team’ is working so as to bring modern affordable homes to every single community where the people need housing,” she told listeners.
Henderson continued, “We will also ensure that affordable houses built by our party will see 30 percent of those homes being allocated and distributed to single parent mothers and young people under the age of 35. Please note that a vote for me is a vote for you comrades. I am your best choice for excellent representation, excellent choice for national and community development and visionary leadership. I am here to serve you and I am ready to work for you.”
Include in the party’s multi-year programme is construction of a new Joseph N France General Hospital to help revive the now-ailing critical health sector.
On the issue of safe spaces, Henderson said lands have been identified in Greenlands to help completely revolutionise the pasture into “the most peaceful place” in all of Central Basseterre.
“We will return St. Kitts and Nevis to the days when it was the leading OECS country; the days when we were the envy of many. This is the commitment of every candidate on the A Team. You the voters deserve better. Your children deserve better and the entire country deserves better,” Henderson emphasised.
