Government keeps promise to frontline workers

THE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT CORPORATION (SWMC) ANNOUNCED it sealed a deal to ensure 50 of its employees get an honorarium for their invaluable services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each worker will get EC$2,000 according to a statement last Friday.
Government Minister, Dr. Joyelle Clarke, under whose portfolio SWMC falls, was elated the process was concluded, paving the way for workers to receive their monies.

During previous meetings with the SWMC staff, Dr. Clarke assured staff that their concerns related to services during the pandemic were valid and would be tangibly addressed.
Beneficiaries will include wardens, drivers and loaders whose jobs included collection and disposal of waste from residences and government-run facilities that housed COVID-19 patients and those who were quarantined.
Cabinet recently approved payment of the honorarium to qualified frontline workers.
